    Nonsense or Not?

    By brewmaster | April 9, 2007

Last night saw me parked in front of the new 46" Sony LCD HD TV recently purchased, watching the beginning of the end of The Sopranos on HBO. I had wanted to watch all 9 of the last episodes in High Def, but haven’t picked up the HD cable box yet, so I’ll watch the last 8 that way.

That I could write that, is amazing to me, and would be utterly undecipherable to the me from 10 years ago. In 1998, we bought our Big-Screen Mitsubishi, and have to say, until the moment I unhooked it from the cable and unplugged it from the wall, it worked perfectly. That we got 9 years out of a TV that most people (even the salesman) told me would last 3 to 4 years before needing service, is amazing, and I’m embarassed to be putting it out to pasture. It may see service upstairs in the office though that’s small comfort. We didn’t really need a new TV, but bought it anyway. That’s the American behavior that I’m a little ashamed of. Like our Big Screen wasn’t enough? We have to have HD too? I don’t even watch that much television, but have to admit, the new screen is amazingly bright and sharp.

Whether or not all the violence and gore of Tony and family will be better in HD remains to be seen.
