In this day and age, charging $12.99 for 24 hours of wifi. Please. The Westin, where family is staying and I’ve brought the little marauder for a visit with Grandma and Grandpa is the worst I’ve seen in a long time. Not only are the rooms marginal at best (for $500 a night), the service is slow and they have the gall to charge $12.99 per day for 512kbs wifi in the common area!

So, I’m using a little of my $12.99 to blog about it.

    Disgraceful, and so 2002.

What Kind of Blogger are You?

    By brewmaster | April 24, 2007

Darren at Problogger asks a great question today:

What kind of blogger are you? The choices are:

    1. Jumping up and down on the same spot

    2. Jumping from one random thing to another

    3. Springboard bloggers

I most definitely am #2, and have had a couple traffic successes, but can honestly say that even before reading Darren’s excellent post, I’d identified myself for what I am and have taken steps to change it. Although, I have to say, early on, I was a type 1 blogger. And though my first blog’s traffic has slowed considerably, I AM working on restoring it.

    The Really Important Things

    By brewmaster | April 23, 2007

Spent the weekend mostly with my son, playing football and baseball. We live in a place where the sun shines a LOT, so much in fact that it’s such a normal thing you sometimes take it for granted and stay inside more than you should. Not THIS weekend, thankfully. He’s 5 and a half (the halves are important these days - so much more important than saying I’m 47 and a half) and in addition to being big for his age, somewhat athletically inclined. So, we threw the youth football around, and the baseball (he’s only got the basket catch going right now) and even went to the diamond and hit some pitches, both under and overhand. Ground balls, a couple hard enough to get out of the infield, even.

The main thing is, I don’t want him to be afraid of the ball. With all the Tee League stuff, by the time kids get old enough to have someone (usually a slightly wild 10 year old) throwing the ball at them, it’s hard enough when it hits a body part to really hurt. And that’s a bad introduction to the concept.

What really got me about this weekend, was that it was the way MOST of our days should be. A lot of outdoor activity getting him ready for those things that will make him feel special as he grows up. We don’t do enough of that, mainly because of our schedules. I’m working hard to make the guys at the top of our organization another billion (seriously) that I’m not spending the time I should with the one person I SHOULD be working harder for. My boy.

That’s the philosophy that got this blog and my side businesses started. Making money for myself and my family that someone who, because they sign my paycheck, can tell me when to come in, when to work and when to go home (only when I really, really NEED to do so).

February 8th, 2008 is the day that all changes.

Who we are when we eat

    By brewmaster | April 20, 2007

Oh man, is this deep and interesting:

"The inescapable truth is that we can only achieve and sustain optimum metabolism when we eat, exercise, and live under an optimum emotional state. Our frame of mind directly impacts metabolism to such a degree that what we think and feel profoundly influences how we digest a meal. Metabolic power is not only about what you eat, but who you are when you’re eating."

VA Tech Massacre NOT the Biggest in U.S. History

    By brewmaster | April 17, 2007

The Bath School incident apparently is.

How is this important? Two reasons:

    1. Violence against innocents in the U.S. is not something new.

    2. You don’t need guns to kill a lot of people.

    Nonsense or Not?

    By brewmaster | April 9, 2007

Last night saw me parked in front of the new 46" Sony LCD HD TV recently purchased, watching the beginning of the end of The Sopranos on HBO. I had wanted to watch all 9 of the last episodes in High Def, but haven’t picked up the HD cable box yet, so I’ll watch the last 8 that way.

That I could write that, is amazing to me, and would be utterly undecipherable to the me from 10 years ago. In 1998, we bought our Big-Screen Mitsubishi, and have to say, until the moment I unhooked it from the cable and unplugged it from the wall, it worked perfectly. That we got 9 years out of a TV that most people (even the salesman) told me would last 3 to 4 years before needing service, is amazing, and I’m embarassed to be putting it out to pasture. It may see service upstairs in the office though that’s small comfort. We didn’t really need a new TV, but bought it anyway. That’s the American behavior that I’m a little ashamed of. Like our Big Screen wasn’t enough? We have to have HD too? I don’t even watch that much television, but have to admit, the new screen is amazingly bright and sharp.

Whether or not all the violence and gore of Tony and family will be better in HD remains to be seen.

    Sleeping Naked Makes Money!

    By brewmaster | April 7, 2007

At least that’s my assumption! What a great concept, and a neat site. Clean, to the point and no extra window dressing. Okay, that was bad. Sleepnaked.org
